She Lost Control at 80 MPH — What the Survivors Found Inside That Flipped Car on Route 55 Will Haunt You

Two young women are dead after a violent single-car crash along Route 55 in Deptford Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey — and investigators say the driver never had a chance to stop what happened next.

New Jersey State Police responded to the scene late Sunday night after a vehicle traveling on Route 55 veered off the roadway under circumstances that are still under investigation.

The driver, identified as 22-year-old Ayzia J. Toledo of Bristol, Pennsylvania, lost control of the vehicle. The car ran off the road, flipped, and slammed into a tree with devastating force.

Toledo was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sitting in the front passenger seat was 22-year-old Henrietta F. Carter of Darby, Pennsylvania. She, too, did not survive the impact.

A third passenger, who was seated in the rear of the vehicle, was transported to a nearby hospital. Officials confirmed the injuries were minor, and no further details about that individual have been released.

State police say no other vehicles were involved in the crash. The investigation into the exact cause — including speed, road conditions, and whether any impairment played a role — remains open.

Route 55 through Gloucester County has seen its share of serious accidents over the years, and Sunday night’s crash serves as another grim reminder of how quickly a trip can turn fatal.

Toledo and Carter were both 22 years old. Their families have not yet made public statements.

Anyone with information about the crash or who witnessed the incident on Route 55 late Sunday night is urged to contact the New Jersey State Police.
