A domestic violence suspect was shot and killed by officers after a pursuit ended in a crash in a quiet Simi Valley neighborhood on Tuesday, according to police.
Officers were called to the 2500 block of Dusan Street around 8:15 a.m. following reports of a domestic disturbance and assault. By the time police arrived, the suspect — a 37-year-old local resident — had already fled the scene.
Investigators later determined there was probable cause to arrest the man on charges of domestic battery and elder abuse. During the investigation, family members told officers the suspect was armed and had made a chilling threat before leaving the home.
“Upon leaving, said that if the police were called, he will ‘shoot it out’ with them,” said Officer Casey Nicholson of the Simi Valley Police Department.
Hours later, around 1:35 p.m., officers spotted the suspect near the Simi Valley Town Center and attempted a traffic stop. He allegedly refused to stop, triggering a short pursuit that looped back toward the same residential block where the incident began.
The chase ended when the suspect’s pickup truck crashed near Dusan Street, striking an unoccupied police motorcycle. Officers then opened fire, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.
Neighbors described a chaotic and frightening scene as gunfire erupted just outside their homes. One resident said they rushed a family member indoors after hearing repeated gunshots ring out down the street.
The suspect’s identity has not been officially released. Acquaintances say he had lived in the area for several years and was a father.
The Simi Valley Police Department and the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office are jointly investigating the shooting, while the department’s Professional Standards Bureau will conduct a separate internal review. All officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, per standard department policy.
