HOUSTON — A woman is dead and a man is in critical condition following what police believe was a murder followed by an attempted suicide in southwest Houston.
The shooting was reported around 6 p.m. in the 8700 block of Gustine Lane.
According to police, three children — two 10-year-olds and a 3-year-old — were inside the apartment at the time and heard a gunshot coming from their parents’ bedroom. The children ran to a relative’s apartment next door, and that relative called 911.
When officers arrived and entered the apartment, they found a woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound. A man was also found inside with at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Investigators believe the shooting was a murder followed by an attempted suicide, though the official investigation is ongoing.
The relationship between the man and woman has not been officially confirmed, but authorities indicate the children were the couple’s. No further details about a possible motive have been released.
Homicide investigators remain at the scene gathering evidence. No charges have been filed at this time, as police continue to investigate the exact sequence of events.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
