An Ohio woman is facing criminal charges after authorities say she left her young daughter home alone overnight while failing to provide her with adequate food and water over an extended period.
Naomi Holloway, 21, has been charged with endangering children, according to jail records and a criminal complaint. She is accused of failing to provide proper care and supervision for her 2-year-old daughter, who was taken to the hospital on Jan. 20 weighing just 17 pounds.
A probable cause affidavit stated that the child’s weight was the result of being deprived of adequate food and water over a prolonged period of time. For comparison, a normal weight for a 2-year-old girl typically ranges from 22 to 32 pounds, according to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
According to officials, Holloway admitted to providing limited food and water to her daughter over an extended period, and to leaving the child home alone and unsupervised while she worked overnight shifts from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
The affidavit also noted that the girl, who is now 3 years old, had a visible injury consistent with neglect, with skin peeling from the affected area.
Holloway is currently being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center on a $50,000 bond.
Court records show Holloway also has a separate court appearance scheduled for Wednesday on unrelated charges, including criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, and operating a vehicle under the influence. A hearing on the child endangerment charge is scheduled for July 6.
The case remains under investigation, and further details may emerge as the legal process continues.
