New Jersey Residents Have 48 Hours Before Severe Weather Moves In — Here's What's Coming

New Jersey is enjoying a brief window of sunshine and comfortable temperatures — but forecasters are warning that the calm won’t last long. A significant weather shift is on the way, and residents may want to prepare sooner rather than later.

For Wednesday and Thursday, skies will remain mostly sunny across the Garden State with high temperatures reaching the low to mid 80s. Humidity will stay low, making conditions feel pleasant and seasonable. Winds will be light on Wednesday before picking up to 10 to 15 mph on Thursday afternoon.

The calm ends Thursday night.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to push into the region as early as Thursday afternoon, with northern and central New Jersey likely to see the first wave of activity. As a cold front approaches around sunset Thursday, strong wind gusts are possible during any thunderstorms that move through the area.

While the National Weather Service has not issued warnings for severe weather or flash flooding at this time, forecasters note that conditions will be monitored closely as the front develops. Residents are still urged to stay aware of any updated alerts, as forecasts for storm systems can shift quickly.

Friday will bring continued rounds of showers and thunderstorms as the cold front pushes through New Jersey. Despite the unsettled conditions, highs on Friday are still expected to reach the 80s, with some breaks of sunshine possible during the day.

The heaviest and most persistent rain is expected from Friday night into Saturday. The cold front is forecast to linger through Saturday, keeping showers in the forecast and pushing high temperatures down to the upper 70s across much of the state.

By Sunday, rain chances are expected to diminish significantly, with dry conditions and temperatures returning to the 80s heading into next week.

New Jersey residents are encouraged to check their local forecasts regularly as the storm system approaches and to avoid outdoor plans Thursday evening through Saturday if possible.
