Morris County Stabbing Victim Identified Nearly a Month After Discovery, No Arrests Made

Authorities have identified the woman found stabbed to death inside a Chester home last month, but nearly four weeks later, investigators have made no arrests and released almost no details about how or why she died.

The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the victim as Brooke Hanlon, 35, of Chester, who was found dead in a Pottersville Road home on June 6. Emergency medical services and Chester Township police officers had responded to a 911 call at the residence that afternoon, arriving to find Hanlon already deceased inside the home.

A subsequent examination by the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office determined her cause of death was multiple sharp force injuries, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.

What happened inside that home remains largely a mystery to the public. It is not clear what weapon was used, whether there have been any arrests, or if investigators have identified any suspects. The case is being jointly investigated by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the Chester Township Police Department, and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, who say the case remains active.

Authorities have deliberately withheld further information, stating that no additional details are being released at this time in order to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.

Hanlon worked as a licensed professional counselor and psychotherapist specializing in trauma-informed therapy for children, adolescents, and families. Colleagues and former patients have described her as deeply dedicated to her work, and her sudden, violent death has shaken the close-knit Morris County community where she lived.

With weeks having passed since the killing and no public movement on a suspect, investigators are now turning to the community for help. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit through the Morris County Communications Center at 973-285-2900, the Chester Township Police Department at 908-879-5100, or Morris County CrimeStoppers at 973-267-2255, where tips can be submitted confidentially.

The investigation continues as residents await answers.
