Houston-Area Driver Charged With DWI, Hit-and-Run as Pedestrian Fights for Life

A Harris County woman now faces serious criminal charges after authorities say she struck a pedestrian with her vehicle and then fled the scene while intoxicated, leaving the victim in critical condition.

The incident unfolded Sunday night, June 28, at approximately 9:44 p.m. in the 12900 block of Cypress North Houston Road in northwest Harris County. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the pedestrian, identified as Charissa Vigil, was walking eastbound in the center turn lane when she was struck by a red 2015 Nissan Juke.

The driver of the Nissan has been identified as Kacie Mayberry. Investigators said Mayberry was also traveling eastbound in the center turn lane and was in the process of making a left turn into a private driveway at the time of the collision. According to the preliminary investigation, Vigil failed to yield the right of way to the oncoming vehicle and was struck by the front left side of the car.

The force of the impact left Vigil with critical injuries. She was airlifted to Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center, where she remained hospitalized in critical condition as of the latest update from authorities.

What happened next has compounded the severity of the case. Rather than remaining at the scene to assist the injured pedestrian, authorities say Mayberry left without stopping to render aid, a decision that would soon result in additional charges once she was tracked down.

Deputies later located Mayberry, and upon contact, they reported observing clear signs of intoxication. She was subsequently taken into custody and now faces two serious charges: Driving While Intoxicated and Failure to Stop and Render Aid.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division has taken over the investigation and is continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have not yet released further details on Mayberry’s bond status or upcoming court appearances.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
