PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania — A DoorDash delivery driver was shot in the head and killed Tuesday night while out on a delivery run in Southwest Philadelphia — and three suspects remain at large.
The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. on the 1000 block of South Ithan Street in the Kingsessing neighborhood.
What Police Found at the Scene
When officers arrived, they found the 42-year-old driver lying on the ground next to his vehicle.
The car’s engine was still running.
A DoorDash delivery bag and two spent shell casings were recovered near him at the scene.
The victim was rushed to Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 10 p.m.
Three Suspects Still Being Sought
Police are actively searching for three males last seen wearing dark clothing who fled the area after the shooting.
No arrests have been made.
Philadelphia Police Department Chief Inspector Scott Small confirmed the details at the scene Tuesday night. Investigators have not released information on a possible motive, and the shooting remains under active investigation.
A Dangerous Night on the Job
The victim was doing what millions of gig workers do every night — making deliveries to earn a living.
He did not make it home.
Kingsessing has seen persistent gun violence in recent years, and Tuesday’s killing is the latest reminder of the dangers that delivery drivers can face, often working alone and late into the night in unfamiliar neighborhoods.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact Philadelphia police.
