All-Hazards Storm Threat Looms Over Three States This Weekend, Forecasters Warn

LINCOLN, NEBRASKA — Weather forecasters have flagged Saturday, June 20, as a day to watch closely across Nebraska, northeast Colorado, and western Kansas, with officials warning that any storms forming through the afternoon could bring multiple threats at once.

A Level 2 of 5 Slight Risk has been issued for the region, covering a broad stretch that includes Lincoln, Omaha, Fort Collins, Denver, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and areas extending toward Wichita. A wider Marginal Risk surrounds that zone, reaching as far as Rapid City, Sioux Falls, Kansas City, Tulsa, and Oklahoma City.

Forecasters say the setup carries an “all-hazards” threat, meaning residents could face large hail, damaging wind gusts, and tornadoes from the same storm system, rather than just one type of severe weather. The danger stems from the potential development of supercells, the most dangerous storm type, capable of producing each of these hazards independently.

Officials note the threat could shift as the day unfolds. Should the storms merge into lines or clusters rather than staying as separate cells, the primary concern would pivot toward widespread damaging winds stretching across a larger corridor, rather than isolated but intense single-storm threats.

What makes Saturday’s setup particularly concerning to meteorologists is the uncertainty over how the storms will organize. Whether they remain discrete supercells or grow into a connected line could determine which communities see the worst of the impact, and forecasters say that detail won’t become fully clear until closer to the event.

Residents across the affected corridor are being urged to monitor forecast updates through Friday, as confidence in a significant severe weather day remains high even as exact timing and placement are still being refined. Authorities recommend having a way to receive emergency alerts and a plan in place before storms develop Saturday afternoon and evening.

This is a developing weather situation. Updates are expected as Saturday approaches.
