A South Carolina personal trainer has been missing for nearly a week after walking away from a local gym, and investigators say her disappearance remains shrouded in mystery as search efforts continue.
Elena Katherine Moore, 39, was last seen leaving a Planet Fitness location in Lexington on Thursday evening. According to police, Moore signed in at the gym at 6:40 p.m. and has not been heard from since. She was reported missing the following day after failing to make contact with anyone close to her.
Moore works as a personal trainer at Wolf’s Fitness Center in Lexington. A police inspector described her sudden disappearance as deeply unusual, noting that this behavior is completely out of character for her.
Investigators say Moore was last spotted walking away from the Planet Fitness location toward a wooded area situated behind a nearby Lowe’s Home Improvement store. What happened after she entered that area remains unknown, and authorities have not been able to determine where she went from there.
Law enforcement deployed drones over the weekend to scan the wooded terrain, but the search turned up no leads. Officers returned to the area again this week to conduct another thorough canvass, hoping to rule out the location entirely or uncover any clue that may have been missed during the initial search.
Police have released a description of Moore to assist the public in identifying her. She stands approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs around 120 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes. At the time she was last seen, she was wearing an olive-green zip-up hoodie paired with black athletic pants. It is currently unknown whether she has her cellphone with her, which has further complicated efforts to locate her.
Authorities are urging anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, to come forward immediately. Investigators believe even a minor detail could prove critical in helping them piece together what happened to Moore and bring the case closer to resolution.
