James Barker, an executive producer on “Love Island USA,” has died at the age of 40 following an unexpected medical emergency while the show was filming on location in Fiji. The news was confirmed jointly by ITV America and Peacock in a statement that left fans and colleagues across the entertainment industry stunned.

According to the statement, Barker passed away last week while the production was shooting on the South Pacific island. The exact circumstances surrounding the medical emergency have not been disclosed, and details remain limited at this time.

The show is set to honor Barker during Tuesday’s episode, the networks confirmed.

Barker’s partner, Adam Roth, shared an emotional tribute following the announcement. He described Barker as the light of his life, someone who brought joy and brilliance into everything he touched. Roth also highlighted Barker’s passion for championing young music artists through the platform “Love Island” provided. The couple had first met at a Billie Eilish concert, and music remained a defining part of their relationship. Roth expressed pride in Barker’s work and gratitude for the time they shared together, calling the loss unimaginable.

Barker had been part of the “Love Island USA” team since 2020, beginning as a story producer before rising to executive producer, a position he held for the past three seasons. The network’s statement called his loss deeply felt across the entire production family, describing him as a beloved and talented colleague whose dedication left a lasting impact on everyone who worked with him.

Before joining the franchise, Barker built a career in television starting in 2011, contributing to popular shows including “Counting Cars,” “Forged in Fire” and “Pawn Stars.” He later worked on the Emmy-winning series “Queer Eye” after joining ITV, eventually moving into producing roles on both “Love Island USA” and “Love Island Games.”

Outside of television, Barker spent two decades working as a DJ across the country, a passion he maintained throughout his career in entertainment.
