A father of five is dead after rushing to help his son recover a stolen truck — and the suspected carjacker who allegedly shot him is now sitting in a Harris County jail cell, denied bail.
Louis Erebia, 56, was killed Saturday afternoon in northeast Houston after his son’s Chevy Silverado was stolen at gunpoint from a gas station along Tidwell Road. The suspect, identified as London Hogan Sr., 37, allegedly approached the younger Erebia at the pump, questioned him about the truck, then pulled a gun and drove off with it.
What happened next would cost a father his life.
After the robbery, Erebia’s son contacted family. Louis Erebia immediately stepped in — using a GPS tracker on the stolen Silverado, the family located the truck near I-610 North and Airline Drive. The stolen vehicle and Erebia’s car collided. As two people scrambled out of the Silverado and ran toward a nearby Chevron station, Erebia gave chase on foot.
That’s when Hogan allegedly opened fire.
Both Erebia and a friend who was with him were struck by the gunfire. The friend survived. Erebia was rushed to a hospital, where he later died from his wounds.
Hogan was arrested the following day and booked into Harris County Jail on charges of murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. His attorney has stated Hogan is claiming self-defense and denies being the one who originally stole the truck. A judge denied him bail this week. His next court date is June 22.
Erebia’s family is demanding justice — and pointing to Hogan’s lengthy criminal history that reportedly spans decades.
“Louis didn’t get shot running to danger,” his sister-in-law said. “Louis got shot running to protect.”
His family remembered him as someone who never hesitated to put others first — a protector, a father, and by every account, a man who died exactly the way he lived.
