As of April 4, 2025, President Trump said that he will sign an executive order to keep TikTok running for another 75 days.
TikTok’s ban is being extended due to Beijing hitting the brakes on making a deal with Trump about TikTok on Thursday, April 3, after Trump talked about wide-ranging tariffs over the world, including against China. The company that owns TikTok, ByteDance, representatives called the Whitehouse to specify that China would no longer agree to the deal unless there could be negotiations on trade and tariffs.
The last day for TikTok is expected to be on June 18, 2025. Through, influencers and many people online still have hope for TikTok; they expect TikTok to be bought by an American company before then.
Along with the ban, a bidding war is ranking up. The companies that have joined the bidding war for TikTok are Applovin, Amazon, Oracle, Blackstone, a consortium named Tim Stokely, and another consortium named Jesse Tinsley. Jesse Tinsley holds the title for the highest bidder for TikTok at this moment, he bid 30 million dollars.
If the ban passes, some TikTok users are planning to return to Instagram or Xiaohongshu. Xiaohongshu means RedNote in English. Previously, TikTok users evacuated to RedNote because the app’s layout was similar to TikTok’s.
“I feel like this whole thing is stupid… Literally, what is the point of banning TikTok?” Isaiah Coronado, a freshman at Sultana High School, said.
“Banning TikTok is like getting rid of the news, I get most of my news from TikTok. I’m not as connected to the world as I am on TikTok.” Expressed Freshman, Emily Martinez
A spokesperson for Bytedance has confirmed in a statement that the company has been talking about a potential solution with the U.S government. Trump indicated on Friday, April 4, that he can get a deal done before the 75 days come to an end
