New Jersey residents are being urged to enjoy the upcoming sunny stretch while it lasts, as forecasters warn of a sharp turn toward stormy, flood-prone conditions just days away.
Friday will bring breezy conditions across the state, with wind gusts reaching up to 30 mph. Southern counties may see scattered showers lingering through the morning hours before skies clear by the afternoon. Statewide high temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 70s to low 80s, with winds peaking in the afternoon before calming down around sunset.
Beachgoers should take extra caution Friday, as a moderate risk of rip currents has been issued for the Jersey Shore.
The weekend, however, is shaping up to be ideal for outdoor plans. Saturday and Sunday will feature mostly sunny skies, low humidity, and seasonable temperatures ranging from the low to mid-80s. A brief period of breezy weather is possible Saturday, with gusts between 20 and 25 mph, but conditions are otherwise expected to remain pleasant throughout both days. The rip current threat is also set to ease, dropping to a low risk by Saturday.
But the calm won’t last. A significant pattern change is forecast to begin Monday, when widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to move through the region during the afternoon and evening hours. Officials caution that heavy downpours from the storm system could lead to localized flooding in parts of the state. Wind gusts up to 30 mph are also possible near the Jersey Shore as the system moves through.
Forecasters say there is still uncertainty surrounding the storm’s exact path and timing, leaving open questions about which areas could be hit hardest. Residents are advised to monitor updates closely as the new week approaches.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve by Tuesday as the storm system pushes offshore, paving the way for calmer weather to return to the region.
