Florida Army Veteran, Father of 3, Shot Dead Over Walmart Parking Spot — Shooter Claims Self-Defense as Family Demands Answers

A Florida father of three and U.S. Army veteran is dead after a woman opened fire on him in a Walmart parking lot in Broward County — and the shooter has not been arrested.

Bart Diguglielmo, 62, was shot once in the stomach on Tuesday afternoon outside the Walmart located at 7900 W. McNab Road in North Lauderdale. Paramedics rushed him to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting followed a verbal argument between Diguglielmo and a woman over a parking space. The woman, whose identity has not been released by police, remained at the scene after the shooting and told detectives she acted in self-defense.

“The shooter, the adult female, remained on scene, cooperated with detectives and told them the shooting was in self-defense,” the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Cellphone video captured during the confrontation shows the woman firing as Diguglielmo walked toward her. A witness told investigators that the woman warned Diguglielmo she would shoot him as he continued to approach.

His daughter Amanda is pushing back against any narrative that justifies the shooting. She rejected claims circulating online that her father had made any inappropriate advance toward the woman.

“I just don’t think anybody deserves to lose their life over a parking spot,” Amanda said. “My dad is not perfect, but not someone that would do this to this extreme.”

No charges have been filed. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office has submitted the case to the Broward State Attorney’s Office to determine whether criminal charges are warranted. The case is ongoing.
