HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — He left his home before sunrise, headed to another day of work. He never made it.

A man was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning in northwest Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The crash happened around 4 a.m. at the intersection of Sablechase and TC Jester.

What Happened at the Intersection

Investigators say a red Toyota was traveling northbound on TC Jester when the driver ran a red light and slammed into a white RAV4 crossing through the intersection.

The driver of the RAV4 was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the red Toyota was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

Open Containers Found — But Questions Remain

When deputies arrived, they discovered open containers inside the red vehicle.

However, authorities say it is too early to determine whether the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash. That determination will come as part of the ongoing investigation.

Victim Was a Local Resident

The victim has not yet been identified. Authorities describe him as a Hispanic man in his 50s who lived in the surrounding neighborhood.

He was leaving for work when the crash occurred.
