CHEYENNE, Wyoming — A father repeatedly told deputies his infant son was sleeping peacefully inside the house. He called the baby’s mother to confirm it. He pointed to the bedroom. He was certain.
He was wrong.
On the evening of June 16, Laramie County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call about an impaired man who was about to drive away with a child in the vehicle.
When they arrived at the Cheyenne home around 8:30 p.m., Jhadon Robert Michael Curry was adamant — the baby was inside, asleep in his crib.
Deputies searched the home. The crib was empty.
Baby Found Locked Inside the SUV
The infant was eventually discovered strapped into a rear-facing car seat inside Curry’s locked Cadillac Escalade — windows up, no airflow.
The child was sweating, crying, and “very hot to the touch, like he had a fever,” according to the probable cause affidavit.
Even then, Curry reportedly refused to accept what deputies were telling him.
“He is in there! I just put him to sleep!” he allegedly told law enforcement.
“He is in the house! What are you talking about?” he reportedly added.
Father’s Reaction When Baby Was Found
Deputies eventually got Curry to unlock the Escalade. His reaction, according to the affidavit, was one of genuine shock.
“Man, he’s in my car?” he reportedly said.
The baby had been inside the locked SUV for just over 30 minutes. With outside temperatures around 75 degrees, the interior of a closed car can rise 20 degrees in just 10 minutes — a potentially life-threatening situation for an infant.
Curry has been charged with one count of misdemeanor child endangerment. His arraignment is scheduled for July 31. He remains in custody at the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office.
