HOUSTON, Texas — A METRO bus and four other vehicles collided on the south side of Houston Thursday afternoon, sending seven people to the hospital and ending with a driver in police custody after attempting to flee.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. in the 11000 block of Almeda Road, according to the Houston Fire Department.
Seven Taken to Hospitals After the Crash
HFD confirmed that seven people were transported to different hospitals following the wreck.
Nine bus passengers reported injuries at the scene.
Of those nine, METRO Police said only one was hospitalized — with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Fire officials did not release additional details on the conditions of the others who were taken to the hospital.
Driver Hit the Bus and Tried to Run
According to METRO Police, the driver of a separate vehicle struck the bus and then attempted to leave the scene.
The driver did not get far.
Houston Police Department officers took the driver into custody. No further details about the driver or potential charges were immediately released.
What We Know So Far
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Authorities have not yet released information on what caused the initial collision or how serious the damage to the vehicles was.
METRO Police and HPD are both involved in the investigation.
