WAYNE, New Jersey — A body was found inside a burning vehicle near one of the area’s busiest shopping destinations, sending investigators to the scene Tuesday and leaving a community full of questions.

Wayne police officers responded June 30 to the area of 77 Willowbrook Blvd. after receiving a report of a vehicle fire near Willowbrook Mall.

When officers arrived, they made a disturbing discovery — an unidentified person was found dead in the driver’s seat of the burning vehicle.

Who Was Found — and What Happens Next

The victim has not been identified as of this report.

The Passaic County Medical Examiner’s Office is now conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of death.

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Wayne Police Chief Joseph Rooney confirmed the discovery and said the investigation remains active and ongoing.

No Public Threat, Authorities Say

Officials were quick to address community concerns.

There are no suspects being sought at this time, and authorities say there is no danger to the public.
