New Jersey is bracing for a rough stretch of weather that meteorologists say could bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, and then a significant heat event, all within the span of just a few days.
This weekend, a stalled cold front will push scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across the state, with the heaviest rainfall expected in central and southern counties. Rainfall totals of around half an inch are forecast for many areas, though some localized downpours could bring more.
Friday is expected to be partly wet, with a morning round of showers — especially across northern New Jersey — before a brief dry period midday. Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s to low 90s in southern and central areas, while the north stays in the low-to-mid 80s.
Saturday will bring a cooler and cloudier day, with temperatures mostly in the 70s to near 80 degrees and continued shower activity. Sunday, however, offers a break — sunny skies and highs in the 80s are expected as conditions dry out.
Heat warning ahead: Starting around Wednesday and lasting through at least Friday, a significant heat buildup is forecast. Maximum heat index values — the “feels like” temperature — could approach or exceed 100 degrees, particularly on Thursday and Friday afternoons. Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, check on vulnerable neighbors, and limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours.
Monday is also expected to remain dry, with temperatures climbing well into the 80s as the heat pattern begins to take hold.
Residents should prepare now for the upcoming heat surge by checking air conditioning units, stocking up on water, and identifying cooling centers in their area. Those with outdoor jobs or who spend extended time outside are especially advised to take precautions.
