Allergy season can be rough, especially in spring with all the pollen. Allergies are said to be worsening this spring season due to the increased pollen counts. Southern parts are supposed to have it bad this allergy season.
A ton of pollen is being produced due to climate change, rising temperatures, and increased carbon dioxide levels. Earlier springs and warm winters cause plants to release pollen earlier within the year and for a longer duration.
Allergy season is April, May, and September. During these months, seasonal allergies reach their peak. April and May are when seasonal allergies reach their worst because pollen counts are at their highest.
“I get really bad seasonal allergies, my dad does too so we just avoid any flowers and we try not to go out as much.” said Sultana High School, Freshman, Emilia Young
“I don’t get seasonal allergies like that but I typically just stay away from any pollen I see on the ground. When my seasonal allergies do get bad I just take medication.”, expressed, freshman, Emily Martinez.
Tips to help manage your allergies :
Shower after being outdoors to remove pollen you pick up from outside, take a shower and change into new clothes. Check the weather, figure out when pollen counts are high and when they are low. Minimize indoor pollen, close your windows and use an AC.
If seasonal allergies get worse, most doctors prescribe a medication called “nasal spray”. It is a spray that is put up your nose. It gives relief to runny noses, sneezing, and nasal congestion.
