Sultan Wrestlers went to state!
Wrestlers of the Sultana team qualified for state wrestling championships.
Two wrestlers named Rocky Humphrey and Cael Humphrey met state qualifications and are now moving to the state wrestling championships. The wrestling championships are being held in Bakersfield at the Mechanics Bank Arena. The day of the tournament was Thursday, February 21. Day two of wrestling was Friday, February 22 and day three of wrestling began Saturday, Febuarary 23.
Cael Humphrey is the first-ever Sultana freshman to make it to the State wrestling championships. Cael and his older brother Rocky are both great and promising wrestlers on the team.
“Making it to state is surreal and the journey was difficult, I didn’t end up placing and the competition is much more difficult than the competition on the journey,” said Cael Humphrey.
Twelve high desert wrestlers are a state qualifier. By qualifying, they are automatically in the top 40 in the entire state for your respective weight class.
Savannah Etheridge was the only girl from Sultana High School to make it to the wrestling state championship.
“I feel proud making it to state because the competition is harder making it feel like an accomplishment. The journey to the state was pretty decent, and compared to the state it was much harder than the previous competitions. I didn’t end up making placement but I went 3-2 with my matches,” Said Savannah Etheridge
Sultana is proud of our wrestlers and their achievements in the league.
