As Sultana High School (SHS) students walk the campus, they feel inspired to honor Veterans this upcoming holiday.
Sultana administration encouraged students to bring photos and a short description of past or present work as a Veteran, to include on one of many posters around campus. These posters made students and staff feel proud to know Veterans.
“I feel the honor of being a Veteran at Sultana High School all the time by doing what I like most and that is being beside my students everyday and going to the Veterans Day community event with my students makes me feel very honored to be teaching and being a part of Sultana on a day that’s special to me,” said Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps instructor, Sergeant Robert Reyes.
Veterans Day is a day that makes families feel very special, this day is especially important to those who have lost a Veteran. However, this day is not inclusive to Veterans, but also celebrates all current soldiers.
There are many ways to celebrate the holiday, some common examples include visiting graveyards, or spending time with family and friends. Senior, Juliet Veloz, said, “I will be taking my grandpa, a former Veteran, out to breakfast to Molly Brown’s like every other year and then make his favorite dinner. It is going to be a very special day that I always spend with him.”
This holiday is representative of the public’s appreciation towards these Veterans and to also take an extra moment to show the military members gratitude for the service that they have dedicated to the country. This time serves to value the soldiers that have fought. protected and continue fighting.
On November 10, 2023, Sultana staff and students get the day off. This is an opportunity to express your gratitude for a Veteran or soldier. At Sultana, these Veteran feature posters unite us all for a greater experience.
