Swept off the Ground

At 7:00 pm on Friday the 10th, Sultana had its homecoming game. Many people were excited for this game considering we haven’t had one for two years! Students, parents, and friends of family all gathered together that night to enjoy it.

The bleachers were packed with lots of school spirit. With supportive friends, parents of players, and Zoo Crew cheering loudly, you could really feel the love that Sultana had for its players that night. The cheering paid off since, as expected, the Sultans took the win with an amazing 41-34 against Granite Hills.

Even though Sultans played a great game, Granite was on their tail for almost the entirety of the game.  After Sultans scored the first four touchdowns, Granite caught up and kept a neck to neck game up until the 4th quarter.

Watching from the crowd, you’d think the players were just having fun and doing their thing, but it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. With most of the school watching and coaches holding high expectations, it can cause a lot of pressure for them.

Aside from the actual game, the homecoming queen and king were announced. Before they were announced, all nominees rode in Jeeps around the track, waving at the crowd. In front of them, each grade level had a homecoming float that also rolled around the track.

Soon after, the queen and king were announced. The winners were Ella Niles and Sebastian Guzman. They were taken to the center of the field and received their crowns. A lot of cheering was heard from the crowd as their names were announced.

Another highlight of the game was the food. There were so many things to choose from. The snack bars had pizza, chips, drinks and even tacos! It made the long lines worth it.

The ultimate vibe of the homecoming game that night was excitement–the excitement of the players who worked hard and win and the excitement of the crowd which was happy to be there and to be able to hang out and support.
