Florida Mother Watched Friend Perform CPR on Her Dying 2-Year-Old — Then Refused to Call 911

Gainesville, Florida — A 29-year-old Florida mother is facing serious criminal charges after authorities say she brutally beat her 2-year-old daughter with a belt, her fists and her feet — then refused to call 911 as the unconscious toddler stopped breathing.

Jessica Wilson was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse following a horrifying incident that unfolded in the Tower Oaks neighborhood of Gainesville. A second count of child abuse stems from a separate act of physical violence that allegedly occurred just two days prior.

Deputies and paramedics responded shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday after receiving a distress call. Upon arrival, a deputy rushed the unresponsive child directly to a waiting ambulance, where paramedics performed emergency lifesaving measures before transporting the toddler to a nearby children’s hospital. Investigators noted the child had visible and significant bruising across her body.

According to authorities, Wilson and her daughter had been staying with a friend at the complex for approximately two weeks. That night, Wilson woke her friend and informed her the child was not breathing. The friend immediately began CPR and urged Wilson to call 911. Wilson refused — repeatedly. After several desperate pleas, the friend called 911 herself while continuing chest compressions.

While first responders were still on scene, Wilson reportedly made statements acknowledging she had harmed the child. She later told investigators she avoided calling for help because she knew the child’s injuries would get her in trouble.

Medical staff placed the toddler into a medically induced coma upon arrival. The child suffered skull fractures, severe bruising to the back and possible internal bleeding. Emergency surgery was required as her condition deteriorated rapidly.

Post-Miranda, Wilson allegedly admitted she lost her temper because her daughter would not listen. She reportedly beat the child with a belt and her fists, then stomped her when the toddler attempted to flee — later admitting she “went too far.”

Wilson remains in custody as the investigation continues. The child’s current condition has not been publicly updated.
