He Survived War — But Not a Walmart Parking Lot: Florida Veteran Shot Dead Over a Parking Space

A military veteran who served his country and spent years saving lives as an emergency room trauma nurse was fatally shot in a Florida Walmart parking lot — over a parking space.

Bart Diguglielmo, 61, was shot following a heated argument with a woman in the parking lot of a Broward County Walmart. Deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene after receiving a call about the shooting and found Diguglielmo with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities confirmed that the dispute began over a parking space before escalating to deadly violence. The unidentified woman remained at the scene after the shooting and cooperated with investigators. She told authorities she acted in self-defense. As of now, no charges have been filed against her, and she was not arrested at the scene.

Diguglielmo leaves behind three children. His daughter, Amanda, remembered her father as a “good man” who dedicated much of his life to others — first as a military veteran and later as a trauma nurse in emergency rooms.

The case has drawn sharp attention as investigators continue to examine whether the shooting falls under Florida’s controversial Stand Your Ground law, which allows individuals to use deadly force if they believe they are in imminent danger — without the duty to retreat.

Witnesses at the scene were interviewed by deputies, though authorities have not publicly disclosed what escalated the verbal confrontation into a fatal shooting.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office has not announced a timeline for when, or if, charges will be filed. The investigation remains ongoing.

Diguglielmo’s death is a sobering reminder of how quickly a minor dispute can turn fatal. A man who survived the challenges of military service and spent his career fighting to save lives in trauma bays lost his own life in a routine parking lot — over a space.
