A Georgia man is behind bars after fatally shooting his wife and adult daughter during a heated family argument Wednesday night — then picking up the phone to tell a 911 dispatcher exactly what he had done.
Ralph Mincey, 63, of Oxford, Georgia, is charged with two counts of murder and a weapons possession offense in connection with the deaths of his wife, Jennifer Lynn Mincey, 57, and their daughter, Amanda Mincey McBrayer, 37. Oxford is a small town located roughly 40 miles southeast of Atlanta.
Deputies responding to a call at a residence on Gauntt Road found Amanda McBrayer already dead at the scene. Jennifer Mincey was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Ralph Mincey was taken into custody at the scene without incident.
According to a 911 call released Friday, Amanda’s husband, Adam McGrath, told dispatchers he witnessed the shooting before fleeing with his two young children. McGrath said the argument began after his wife and her father got into a confrontation. He told the dispatcher that Mincey warned the family he had a weapon before opening fire — shooting his daughter in the head, then turning on his wife.
In a separate 911 call, Mincey himself called to report what he had done. He told the dispatcher that his wife had told their daughter he was not properly caring for his mother — a claim he disputed. “I just couldn’t handle no more the lying,” he said on the call. “I lost it. I’m so sorry. Thirty-eight years, I love her.”
When asked by the dispatcher whether the victims were still breathing, Mincey replied they were not.
“We are saddened by this senseless loss of life,” said Walton County Sheriff Keith Brooks in a statement released by his office.
Mincey remains in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
