Lent is rapidly approaching! Lent is a Holiday for the preparation of the resurrection of Jesus. It is celebrated mainly by Catholics, although some Christians follow this tradition as well.
Lent starts on Ash Wednesday; Ash Wednesday is mainly a purification of sins. This year, Ash Wednesday is on March 5. The ashes symbolize how God created us from dust and the return to dust after death.
In the proclamations in Genesis 3:19, it states, “Remember you are dust and to dust you shall return.”
People during Lent use it for prayer, penance, and sacrifice. Lent lasts 40 days (not including Sundays). In the 40 days, they give up something that they love. Some examples of things to offer during Lent may be:
-Give up eating meat
-Give up sweets
-Waking up early to pray
– Give up one hour a day with no electronics
-Stop drinking soda
-Stop cussing
-Start a fast
There are many sacrifices people can make during Lent. It can be something simple or something personal. Lent also includes a time of prayer; celebraters can take a few minutes a day to pray for anything they want to ask God.
If you celebrate, good luck on your spiritual journey this spring. May God give you strength and help you succeed!!
