Sultana High School presents Shrek: The Musical!, the show promises humorful and dazzling performances where being true to yourself and meaningful moments come to life with the power of song. Don’t miss out on this enchanting and family-friendly performance! This Sultana production is being directed by Carrie Kirk, the drama teacher, and Breanna Willams, the choir teacher, with their supporting Sultan crew and cast. Here’s an insight on how the process is going for them!
The musical should be complete and ready to perform as early as this coming spring and ticket sales will begin before spring break. The musical will be performed as usual in the Sultan Hall (MPR), remember to preorder for the lowest prices!
The decision to pick this musical came to the directors from quite a foolish sign. Kirk recounted the story as follows
“We went down to Cal State San Bernardino for our theater festival in March and they had two different workshops where they were working on Shrek and so they went into how to build the little Shrek ears and a small styrofoam set for the swamp, and so we were like what are we being told here, then I came back to school later on and I found a Shrek charm laying on the ground somewhere… and we were like, we’re doing Shrek!”
The process of the musical started right away with auditions being hosted in December and rehearsals began as soon as January 7th, 2025. The Shrek musical will follow the original storyline from the first Shrek movie. The process of this musical has been going very smoothly so far, “No setbacks, we’re honestly right where we should be” a Sultana senior Tristan Marquez Lucke a crew member for the musical.
They do not only work on the musical after school they have a fourth-period production class. They were able to complete most of the props last semester that are being used for the production. They are currently working on costumes for the cast members and plan to start working on the sets this coming February. They have been working diligently to put together an amazing show.
