Woohoo! The tassel’s been turned, the cap’s been thrown and diploma awarded…now what?
As the second semester settles in, the end of the year begins to lurk—or shine—depending on one’s circumstance. For some, their high school journey has just begun and their first year will be coming to a close, while others start to see the fruits of their labor as college, careers and futures come into view.
Navigating the future is widely unpredictable and often fickle, so having a plan or at least an idea can help give students that extra boost. Senior, Brandy Bantau says, “I’m going to a four–year college to study communications”. She explains that having a plan makes her feel like she, “…has something to look forward to and gives me more motivation to do good.”
As Bantau said, having an idyllic future to look forward to, does provide the much–needed patience and endurance to close one educational chapter and open another.
Due to Sultana High School’s (SHS) close proximity, many students choose to attend Victor Valley College (VVC). This is a junior college with excellent and affordable academics. “I’m going to VVC because it’s cheap and close to me,” said Lyzette Vargas, “I want to be a radiology technician and I don’t want to go far away and spend a bunch of money.”
Some students may also choose to go straight into the workforce, if those students wanted, Sultana offers several career training education programs that allows students to complete certifications, gain experience, and become career ready just after graduation.
Then there are the seniors who feel uncertainty in regards to their future, and for those students, a trip to counseling will be highly beneficial. SHS counselors are knowledgeable and give unique advice to every student they meet with.
So whether a student has the college acceptance letter, is waiting, has a plan or has no clue what they are doing, Sultana wishes them luck in their departures.
