Mental Energy: Drained Throughout the Day

Justin Romero

In a world where we have to go to school at the same time when an infectious virus is spreading, it’s an understatement to say that people are tired. Very, very tired.

Somedays, it feels like time is passing by slower than a slug as you wake up, go to school, go to sleep, wake up, go to school, go to sleep, wake up…well, you get the picture.

But to find the actual answer to why everyone is so exhausted, let me tell you something about the most convoluted system in the world; the human brain.

Every brain cell is connected to 100,000 other cells in a highly integrated network, and when you’re low on energy, your brain has decreased blood flow and electrical activity.

So when you don’t get enough sleep, or drink enough water, or enough of the right foods, your brain is not nurtured correctly and it can cause you to be physically drained. But then what’s the explanation for feeling all…blegh all the time?

Well, there are many things that can make someone tired, especially around the teen years. I’m sure the main example that you are thinking of is school; you have to go for 7 hours a day, five times a week, and then take all that pressure home and continue to work hard for a good report card, though it would be easier to find A’s in a can of alphabet soup. That would be exhausting for anyone. And it’s even worse if you are not very smart.

When your energy and worth is put into something you don’t particularly care about, it can tire you to a point where you feel empty and drained. I mean, you might think it’s bad as a student, but imagine how teachers feel, having to wake up at 5 in the morning and then drive to work where you put up with a bunch of loud, annoying, and disrespect children, then grade their loud, annoying and disrespectful answers to the assignments that are given to them. Everyone must be so finished at this point.

And it’s not just school. Inherently, we get tired when our energy is put into something that we don’t view positively. You can put an artist in front of a canvas and they can spend hours on end on a singular painting. But put that same person in front of a computer screen at a dead-end 9-5 job and they would hate their life!

Living without burden provides relief that one cannot imagine. But in almost every part of your life, you will have responsibilities that you HAVE to deal with. This article is simply another responsibility that I have to deal with for now.

I suppose you learn to live with it. Adapt and overcome.

Your mental health is incredibly important, and it’s why you must find the perfect middle ground between enjoying yourself and getting your work done. That is the closest thing you will get to an answer to this dilemma, though you’d probably get a lot further if you actively choose to remain positive.
